Whether you’re a long-time opera buff or a total novice, we want to share our love of this art form with you.

Opera Untapped is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reimagining what classical music can be and who it’s for. We create approachable performances in unexpected locations.

Press Release: Opera Untapped Launches a Bold New Chapter in New England’s Opera Landscape

Artist-led company builds on 15-year legacy to create a new brand that expands how opera is made, shared, and experienced today.

Our History

Opera Untapped was established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2025. We were previously known as Opera on Tap Boston, part of the international network of Opera on Tap chapters that provided unique singing opportunities for classical singers around the world.

In our constant mission to innovate, our work began to reach far beyond the confines of our previous mission. In May 2026, we launched Opera Untapped as the next step for both our audiences and artists, building on more than 15 years of bringing opera to unexpected places throughout Greater Boston and beyond.

Our Artists

Opera Untapped brings together an exceptional community of professional singers and instrumentalists from across New England. Our artists have performed with leading opera companies, orchestras, and ensembles, bringing remarkable musicianship, versatility, and artistry to every performance.

We build each project around the music, the setting, and the people bringing it to life. The result is a dynamic mix of artists who thrive on collaboration and bring fresh energy, spontaneity, and imagination to every stage.

Creating Community, One Aria at a Time

Opera Untapped creates opportunities for people to experience opera together in places and ways that feel unexpected, welcoming, and connected to everyday life. Through performances, collaborations, and community programs, we bring artists and audiences together across Greater Boston and New England. We believe everyone deserves to experience the arts, and we are committed to making opera accessible and affordable.

From Flowers & Opera to our newest collaborations, Untapped Adventures in Our Little Songbook and Shakespeare of Harlem, our programs take the classical voice beyond the traditional stage and into the places where people already gather. Opera meets gardens, parks, libraries, neighborhoods, circus artists, Shakespeare, and the unexpected.

We believe opera does not need to be confined to a theater. It can happen anywhere people gather. And when it does, it can invite new audiences in, create new connections, and make the art form feel like it belongs to all of us.

In 2026, Opera Untapped has presented 14 events across 9 venues, engaged 68 artists, welcomed more than 3,000 audience members and participants, and presented 7 free public performances. Behind those numbers are artists given the opportunity to create, audiences discovering something new, and communities coming together around live performance.

We are creating a future for opera that is expansive, curious, and deeply connected to the people and places around us.
